NCAA Mascot Madness (Round of 64)

The first round of the actual March Madness tournament is now over, and maybe by the time your reading this the second round is wrapping up. Though do not worry if your team has been knocked out already, because I have decided to take the mascots of all 64 teams and put them in a tournament using the same seeding as the actual tournament. I will be listing the animal or character that each mascot is, not the name of the mascot. For example, LSU will be tiger, not Mike the Tiger, because some of the names can be misleading. This whole tournament is going to be based around which mascot would win in a 1on1 fight. (Think deadliest warrior but with mascots). Now I will do a little background research on each mascot, and each match up to try to simulate whow would win. Feel free to leave a comment if you think I get one of the winners wrong, and explain why that mascot would have won or vice-versa.

ROUND OF 64:

1.Wildcat(Villanova) vs 16.Leopard(Lafayette)

They are both types of cats, but let me put it this way a wildcat is about 1/5th the size of a leopard.

Winner:16.Leopard(Lafayette)
image

8.Wolf(NC State) vs 9.Tiger(LSU)

A tiger would easily take out a wolf. I mean there’s a reason one of them can be domesticated into a dog-like pet.

Winner:9.Tiger(LSU)
image

5.Panther(Northern Iowa) vs 12.Cowboy(Wyoming)

A cowboy is probably carrying a revolver on him which would put down that panther real quick.

Winner:12.Cowboy(Wyoming)
image

4.Cardinal(Louisville) vs 13.Anteater(UC Irvine)

One can fly and has a beak, other one sucks up ants all day.

Winner:4.Cardinal(Louisville)
image

6.Friar(Providence) vs 11.Flyer/Pilot(Dayton)

I’m assuming on this one that a Pilot would be able to take down a Friar, especially if the Friar was a pacifist or something like that.

Winner:11.Flyer/Pilot(Dayton)
image

3.Pony and Sooner(Oklahoma) vs 14.Great Dane(Albany)

A pony could possibly take out a normal sized dog, but Great Danes can get almost as big as the pony itself, and the pony is at a disadvantage since its hooked up to a Sooner’s wagon.

Winner:14.Great Dane(Albany)
image

7.Spartan(Michigan St.) vs 10.Bull Dog(Georgia)

A Spartan Warrior vs Bull Dog, thats just animal cruelty

Winner:7.Spartan(Michigan St.)
image

2.Cavalier(Virginia) vs 15.Bruin/Bear(Belmont)

A cavalier does have a sword, but a pretty thin one at that, and a Bruin is one mighty bear.

Winner:15.Bruin/Bear(Belmont)
image

1.Blue Devil(Duke) vs 16.Colonial(Robert Morris)

Lets see a Colonial vs a BLUE DEVIL…..

Winner:1.Blue Devil(Duke)
image

8.Aztecs(San Diego St.) vs 9.Thunder Bird(St. Johns)

Aztecs are easily taking out a bird with a spear or arrow, even a thunder bird.

Winner:8.Aztecs(San Diego St.)
image

5.Swoop/Bird(Utah) vs 12.Lumber Jack(SF Austin)

A Lumber Jack will chop a Swoop right in half.

Winner:12.Lumber Jack(SF Austin)
image

4.Bull Dog(Georgetown) vs 13.Swoop/Bird(Eastern Washington)

The Bull Dog ends up with a bunch of feathers in its mouth.

Winner:4.Bull Dog(Georgetown)
image

6.Mustang(SMU) vs 11.Bruin/Bear(UCLA)

There is a reason we don’t try to tame bears.

Winner:11.Bruin/Bear(UCLA)
image

3.Cardinal(Iowa St.) vs 14.Dragon(UAB)

Well a Cardinal is pretty viol….NOPE it’s a Dragon

Winner:14.Dragon(UAB)
image

7.Hawk(Iowa) vs 10.Wildcat(Davidson)

Cats are pretty notorious for taking out birds, but hawks are not just your average bird.

Winner:7.Hawk(Iowa)
image

2.Bull Dog(Gonzaga) vs 15.Bison(North Dakota St.)

There will be a trampled bull dog at the end of this match-up

Winner:15.Bison(North Dakota St.)
image

1.Wildcat(Kentucky) vs 16.Pirate(Hampton)

A wildcat or a person who makes a living off plundering and fighting on the high seas

Winner:16.Pirate(Hampton)
image

8.Bear Cat(Cincinnati) vs 9.Boilermaker(Purdue)

A bear cat looks like it would get some pretty deep scratches in before the boilermaker takes one of his tools and bludgeons it, and ends up making a nice fur rug.

Winner:9.Boilermaker(Purdue)
image

5.Mountaineer(West Virginia) vs 12.Bull(Buffalo)

A mountaineer seems pretty resourceful, and if he deals with mountain lions then a bull will not be much of a problem

Winner:5.Mountaineer(West Virginia)
image

4.Terrapin/Turtle(Maryland) vs 13.Crusader/Knight(Valparaiso)

Turtles have hard shells, but Knights have big swords and much better armor.

Winner:13.Crusader/Knight(Valparaiso)
image

6.Bull Dog(Butler) vs 11.Longhorn(Texas)

The Longhorn will trample, or maybe just gore the poor bull dog, take your pick.

Winner:11.Longhorn(Texas)
image

3.Fighting Irish/Leprechaun(Notre Dame) vs 14.Huskies(Northeastern)

That little fighting leprechaun could easily just drop his pot of gold on the huskie

Winner:3.Fighting Irish/Leprechaun(Notre Dame)
image

7.Shocker/Stalk of Wheat(Wichita St.) vs 10.Hoosier/Native of Indiana(Indiana)

All Natives of Indiana take a sigh of relief

Winner:10.Hoosier/Native of Indiana(Indiana)
image

2.Jayhawk/BIrd(Kansas) vs 15.Aggie/Double Pistol Cowboy(New Mexico St.)

This is just a matter of which pistol the Aggie chooses to use when shooting the Jayhawk.

Winner:15.Aggie/Double Pistol Cowboy(New Mexico St.)
image

1.Badger(Wisconsin) vs 16.Rooster(Coastal Carolina)

Go look up honey badger videos, if you happened to be in a coma a few years back

Winner:1.Badger(Wisconsin)
image

8.Duck(Oregon) vs 9.Cowboy(Oklahoma St.)

Quack vs Gun

Winner:9.Cowboy(Oklahoma St.)
image

5.Razorback(Arkansas) vs 12.Terrier(Wofford)

Not exactly sure how many ways a razorback can hurt you, but the terrier won’t be around long enough to find out

Winner:5.Razorback(Arkansas)
image

4.Tar-heel/ram/goat(North Carolina) vs 13.Pilgrim(Harvard)

The Goat might break a few ribs, but even with their simple flintlock guns, a pilgrim is going to kill it eventually.
Winner:13.Pilgrim(Harvard)
image

6.Musketeer(Xavier) vs 11.Rebel(Ole Miss)

They both have guns, but one is a well trained swordsman and marksman, the other is well …. a rebel.

Winner:6.Musketeer(Xavier)
image

3.Bear(Baylor) vs 14.Panther(Georgia St.)

One of the tougher match-ups the panther definitely has the speed element on its side, but the bear’s overall size and strength will man handle the panther

Winner:3.Bear(Baylor)
image

7.Ram(VCU) vs 10.Buckeye/Nut(Ohio St.)

Im assuming the ram does not have a nut allergy

Winner:7.Ram(VCU)
image

2.Wildcat(Arizona) vs 15.Tiger(Texas Southern)

This comes down to the size element again, one is about 1/5th the size of the other one and they are both types of cats

Winner:15.Tiger(Texas Southern)
